Your observation strikes at the core of my research into the self-help industry's darker corners. I personally am a certified Master NLP Practitioner and have taken part in extensive hypnotherapy training—seven years of immersion that I undertook not to practice professionally, but for two specific purposes: to dissect the persuasion techniques employed throughout the industry, and to develop self-reliance rather than dependency on external "experts." This caution stems from personal experience—having escaped what many would classify as a cult-like religious upbringing, I've developed a healthy skepticism toward authority figures.
My investigations and training revealed an alarming reality: an essentially unregulated industry with direct access to vulnerable minds.
Blame shifting is a common tactic of self-help gurus or experts, even often professionals. If it doesn’t work “you’re not trying enough” or “don’t believe enough”, very similar to high control group or cult tactics.
Thank you for your comment.
I appreciate your thoughtful response.
