Your observation strikes at the core of my research into the self-help industry's darker corners. I personally am a certified Master NLP Practitioner and have taken part in extensive hypnotherapy training—seven years of immersion that I undertook not to practice professionally, but for two specific purposes: to dissect the persuasion techniques employed throughout the industry, and to develop self-reliance rather than dependency on external "experts." This caution stems from personal experience—having escaped what many would classify as a cult-like religious upbringing, I've developed a healthy skepticism toward authority figures.

My investigations and training revealed an alarming reality: an essentially unregulated industry with direct access to vulnerable minds.

Blame shifting is a common tactic of self-help gurus or experts, even often professionals. If it doesn’t work “you’re not trying enough” or “don’t believe enough”, very similar to high control group or cult tactics.
